Why local works better for Samsung sellers

Galaxy phones get re-graded online. Not here.

Samsung Galaxy phones — particularly the Z Flip and Z Fold range — are some of the most commonly re-graded handsets in the postal phone-buying industry. The big online buyers (BackMarket, Mazuma, Music Magpie, Envirofone) all use the same playbook: an attractive headline quote pulls you in, you ship the device for free, and a few days later they email back a lower offer based on something they claim wasn't in your photos. The legal small print gives them permission. The customer feedback on Trustpilot makes the pattern obvious.

Phone Zone Sale is a small independent shop in Sale Post Office, on Stanley Square. We don't run a national grading conveyor belt — Sid quotes your phone, you bring it in, we confirm the photos match, and you're paid. The quote we give over WhatsApp is the quote you walk out with. If you're anywhere in Greater Manchester — Sale, Altrincham, Stretford, Urmston, Chorlton, Didsbury, Wythenshawe, Trafford or central Manchester — coming in locally is faster, safer and more honest than posting a £700 phone to a warehouse in another county.

Samsung models we quote on.

Resale demand for Samsung phones is strong, but specific to the line. Flagships hold value, Z Flip and Fold phones are graded on the screens far more strictly than the rails or back, and the mid-range A series is volume — lots of them, sold for less, but quick to move. Here's the lay of the land:

Galaxy S series (S20, S21, S22, S23, S24)

The mainstream resale segment. S23 and S24 hold value best. Ultra variants get a strong premium for the camera and S Pen.

Galaxy A series (A52, A53, A54, A55)

Mid-range Samsungs. Lower headline values but reliable buyers, especially in 128GB+ storage.

Galaxy Note 10 and Note 20

Discontinued line, but Note buyers still actively look. Note 20 Ultra in good cosmetic condition fetches surprisingly well.

Z Flip 3, 4, 5, 6

Folding flip phones. Quote depends heavily on inner screen condition and crease wear.

Z Fold 3, 4, 5, 6

Tablet-style folds. High retail price means decent resale even at 50% of new — provided both screens are clean.

Older Galaxy (S10, S9, Note 9 and earlier)

Accepted, but offers are modest. Send photos for a real number.

What we look at when quoting your Galaxy.

Same five-factor framework we use for iPhones, with three Samsung quirks worth knowing about up front. Be honest in your photos and the WhatsApp number is the cash number — no nasty surprises in store.

Cosmetic grade

Excellent, Good, Fair, For Spares — same scale we apply to all brands. Samsung backs scratch faster than iPhone titanium so even gentle use sometimes drops a phone from Excellent to Good. That's normal — we still buy at a fair Good price.

Screen burn-in (AMOLED specific)

Samsung Galaxy displays are AMOLED. Ageing AMOLEDs sometimes show a faint “ghost” of the navigation bar or app icons when on a flat colour. We test for this with a grey or white background. Slight burn-in is common on older S10 / S20 and Note phones and reduces the offer; severe burn-in pushes the phone to spares pricing.

Foldable hinge and inner display

Z Flip and Z Fold phones live or die on the inner screen. We check for crease deformation, dust under the panel, and any dead zone on the fold. A clean inner screen is worth a lot — a cracked or delaminated one drops the offer to spares. Bring the hinge protector if you still have it; it doesn't change the quote but is appreciated.

Storage & RAM variant

Samsung often ships multiple storage and RAM combinations of the same model. 256GB and 512GB Ultra variants get a clear premium. 128GB Galaxy A phones are the highest-volume sale, so quotes are tighter but the phone moves quickly.

Account locks (Samsung + Google)

Samsung devices have two account ties: your Samsung account (Knox / Find My Mobile) and your Google account (Factory Reset Protection). Both must be removed before the phone can be factory-reset and resold. Sign out of both, then reset. We can't accept a phone where these aren't cleared — but we're happy to talk you through it on WhatsApp before you come in.

How the sale works.

1. Photos

Front (powered on), back, both rails. For Z Flip / Z Fold add the inner screen unfolded flat.

2. WhatsApp

Send to Phone Zone Sale with model, storage and any quirks. Quote back the same hour during shop hours.

3. Reset

Sign out of Samsung + Google, turn off Find My Mobile, factory reset.

4. Cash

Walk in to Sale Post Office, 53 Stanley Square. Same-day cash or bank transfer.

Switching to iPhone? Trade across brands.

Plenty of customers walk in with a Samsung and walk out with an iPhone — or the other way around. Trade-in offers tend to be a fraction higher than straight cash because we save on stock cost on the buy side. Browse current used iPhones in Sale, Manchester, used Samsung phones, or used Google Pixels before you visit and we'll quote both directions.

Common Samsung-selling questions.

Which Samsung phones do you buy?

We buy the Galaxy S series (S20 onwards), Galaxy A series (A52, A53, A54 and similar), Galaxy Note 10 and Note 20 series, the Z Flip range (Flip 3, 4, 5, 6) and the Z Fold range (Fold 3, 4, 5, 6). Older Samsungs are accepted but values drop sharply year on year.

Will you take a Galaxy with a cracked screen?

Yes, but the offer is much lower. Galaxy AMOLED screens are expensive to replace, especially on Z Flip and Z Fold. Send a photo on WhatsApp and we'll quote — for a Z Fold inner display crack the offer is sometimes only spares value, but it's still better than zero.

Do I need to remove my Samsung account before bringing it in?

Yes — sign out of your Samsung account, your Google account, and turn off Find My Mobile. Then factory reset (Settings → General Management → Reset → Factory data reset). A Samsung still tied to a previous account is locked and unsellable.

Do Z Flip and Z Fold phones hold their value?

Folding Samsungs depreciate faster than the standard Galaxy line because the inner screens are fragile and replacement is costly. A Z Flip 5 in mint condition with no crease damage still gets a strong quote — but a phone with hinge wear or a screen crease will be priced for repair cost.

Can I trade my Samsung for an iPhone or vice versa?

Yes. We trade across brands. If you're switching to an iPhone, message us with your Samsung details and the iPhone you want — we'll show both quotes side by side so you can see the cash difference.
