Why people choose us over postal buyers

The price we quote is the price you get paid.

The big online buyers — BackMarket, Mazuma, Music Magpie, Envirofone — all work the same way: you describe your iPhone, they show a headline price, you post the phone in, then a few days later the offer comes back lower. The reasons given vary — “different battery health”, “light scratch we couldn't see in photos”, “market shifted” — but the outcome is the same: you either accept a smaller number, or you pay the return shipping and start again. That is the standard model in the UK phone-buying industry, and it is why so many people end up disappointed.

Phone Zone Sale works differently because we're a small, independent shop, not a national service centre with a grading queue. When Sid quotes your iPhone over WhatsApp from the photos you send, that is the price you walk out with — provided the device matches the photos when you arrive at Sale Post Office on Stanley Square. No re-grade in a back room, no email two days later asking for less, no opaque condition matrix. If you live in Sale, Altrincham, Stretford, Urmston, Wythenshawe, Chorlton, Didsbury or anywhere in Greater Manchester, walking in is faster, safer and almost always more profitable than posting a £600+ phone to a warehouse.

iPhone models we buy in Manchester.

We'll quote on any iPhone made in the last seven years, and we occasionally take older models for spares. Resale demand drops sharply each generation, so values change month to month. The list below is a guide to which models tend to sell well and which need a sharper price to move.

iPhone 16, 16 Plus, 16 Pro, 16 Pro Max

Top resale value — even with light use

iPhone 15, 15 Plus, 15 Pro, 15 Pro Max

Strong demand, particularly Pro Max in Natural Titanium

iPhone 14, 14 Plus, 14 Pro, 14 Pro Max

Good value if battery health is above 85%

iPhone 13, 13 Mini, 13 Pro, 13 Pro Max

Still very saleable — quote depends on storage

iPhone 12, 12 Mini, 12 Pro, 12 Pro Max

Reasonable cash, popular as second devices

iPhone 11, 11 Pro, 11 Pro Max

Lower offers but accepted, especially unlocked 128GB+

iPhone SE (2020 / 2022)

Solid demand from buyers wanting Touch ID

iPhone X, XS, XR, 8 Plus

Accepted, but values have dropped sharply

What actually affects your iPhone's offer.

Most postal buyers pretend their pricing is a black box. It isn't — it's mostly four or five factors. Here's exactly what we look at when quoting your iPhone, so you can read your own phone and make the right call before you visit.

  1. 1. Cosmetic condition

Excellent, Good, Fair or For Spares.

An “Excellent” iPhone has no visible marks under normal lighting and the screen is glass-on-glass clean. “ Good” allows light scuffs on the rails or back glass. “Fair” covers any iPhone with a scratched screen, dented rail or small chip. “For Spares” covers cracked glass, dead pixels, water damage indicators tripped, or FaceID failure. Each step down typically takes 15–25% off the quote, but a Fair offer is still real money — we don't throw lowball numbers at imperfect phones.

  2. 2. Battery health

    Anything above 85% holds value.

You can check this on your iPhone under Settings → Battery → Battery Health & Charging. A reading of 90% or above is what buyers want and is the price ceiling. 80–89% reduces the offer modestly. Below 80% iPhone shows a “Service” warning, and the offer drops further or we cost in a battery replacement. For older iPhones (11, 12, 13) a fresh genuine battery from us can sometimes lift the resale grade enough to make replacement worthwhile — ask about it on WhatsApp.

  3. 3. Storage capacity

128GB and above are mainstream. 64GB is harder to resell.

Apple stopped shipping 64GB on most models, but plenty of older iPhones still in circulation are 64GB. Customers buying used phones now expect 128GB minimum, so 64GB iPhones go for less. 256GB and 512GB Pro models retain a strong premium because they're harder to come by second-hand.

  4. 4. Network status

    Unlocked beats locked, every time.

Most modern iPhones sold via Apple direct or via the major networks on a finished contract are already unlocked. If you're unsure, pop your SIM in another network's SIM and test. Locked iPhones (still tied to EE, O2, Vodafone or Three) sell for around 10% less because the next buyer might need to unlock it — and unlocking is free but takes a couple of days through your carrier. We can quote either way.

  5. 5. iCloud activation lock

Must be off before you bring it in.

Find My iPhone has to be turned off and you have to be signed out of iCloud before we can take the phone. If we can't factory-reset it without your Apple ID password the phone is effectively bricked for the next owner — Apple permanently locks it. Settings → [Your Name] at the top → Sign Out. If you can't remember the password, sort that with Apple first; we can't buy a locked iPhone at any price.

Selling your iPhone — start to finish.

1. Photos

Front of the screen powered on, back of the device, both rails, and a screenshot of Settings → Battery → Battery Health.

2. WhatsApp

Send to Phone Zone Sale on WhatsApp with the iPhone model, storage and any quirks. Quote back the same hour during shop hours.

3. Reset

Sign out of iCloud, turn off Find My, factory-reset the device. We can guide you on WhatsApp if it's not obvious.

4. Cash

Walk into Sale Post Office, 53 Stanley Square. We confirm the device matches and pay you in cash or bank transfer.

Trade-in vs. straight cash.

If you're upgrading, you have a third option beyond “sell for cash”: trade your old iPhone against a newer one we have in stock. Trade-in offers are typically 5–10% higher than the cash number because we save on the stock cost on the other side. If you want a Pro Max next, ask about trading your current iPhone in alongside the purchase. We'll quote both directions on WhatsApp.

Stock turns over weekly so the model and storage you want might land before your old phone is gone. Browse current used iPhones in Sale, Manchester to see what's in the cabinet, or message us with the model you're after and we'll watch for it.

iPhone-selling questions, answered.

Which iPhone models do you buy?

Phone Zone Sale buys iPhone 11 through to iPhone 16 Pro Max in any condition grade above 'broken'. Older models (iPhone X, XS, XR, 8 Plus) are still accepted but quotes are lower as resale demand is thinner. We also buy iPhone SE 2020 and 2022 generations.

Do I need the box and charger to sell my iPhone?

No. The box, charger and cable bump the offer slightly because they are easier to resell as a complete kit, but a phone alone is fine. Many of our quotes are for handsets only.

Does the cracked back or screen kill the offer?

It reduces the offer but doesn't kill it. Cosmetic damage is graded 'Fair' or 'For Spares'. We still pay because we stock spares and refurbish in-house. Send a photo on WhatsApp first so we can quote accurately.

Do I need to remove iCloud / Find My iPhone before I bring it in?

Yes. Sign out of iCloud, turn off Find My iPhone, then factory-reset the device. We can talk you through it on WhatsApp if you're unsure. We can't accept any iPhone with an active iCloud lock — Apple won't release it from the previous owner.

How long does the whole process take in store?

About 10–15 minutes. We confirm the cosmetic grade matches your photos, run a battery health and FaceID check, factory-reset if needed, then pay you in cash or by bank transfer the same visit.
